ta moko (Maori)
Ta moko or the face tattoo is a symbol of rank in traditional
Maori culture. The early New Zealand artist Charles Goldie
painted portraits of Maori which serve as a record of the moko
at the time of European settlement of New Zealand. See some
examples of
Goldie's paintings of tattoo Maori leaders.
Carvings, Weavings and other crafts of and about Maori and Polinesian Poeple. Also welcome are photos of events which discribe the society of those people.
When posting photos please tag your images with description and location of the subject. Since I'm a fairly new Kiwi, I would appreciate if we could have native or knowledgeable photographers in this group who can give a little help with Maori language, Maori rituals and events or can give valuable comments on the posted photos.
Have fun with this group.
