Five Tangerine Cranes at Dawn, a poem by Dale Driscoll

For Stephen Matlaga

Monoprint "Five Tangerine Cranes at Dawnt" by Raymond Neher

 Five Tangerine Cranes at Dawn

A sonata in Crane Major greeted the morn,
And audience of golden carp subdued,
Saw sun and moon in gossamer veils
In ballet over watery surface.
I see our awakenings, our tenderness,
Mussed hair, coffee and cigarettes,
As if time had gone out for breakfast
And forgotten the rest of our lives.
