Basset Hound "River of Dreams"It is with great sadness that we
inform you, our family and friends, of the passing of our beloved
companion and family member, River. River was born on June 23,1999 and
passed away quietly, on his own terms, on July 11, 2006. When he came
into our lives at 12 weeks of age, River was given the AKC name of
“River of Dreams”, a name that proved so fitting of this beautiful
puppy. River turned our dreams of what could be into the realities of
what he brought to us, seven years of laughter, love, innocence, and the
pure happiness of simple things.
From the very moment he joined our family, River was the essence of a
faithful and loving companion. His world was his family, and he wanted
nothing more than to be at our side. His constancy and his antics
brought us great contentment and joy. As some of you know, life with
River was a continuous adventure. He knew no boundaries, and would stop
at nothing to make sure he did not miss a single moment of our lives,
whether we were eating, watching TV, lounging in the yard, or doing
chores in the kitchen. He was always a glance and a short step away.
Due to River’s intelligence and skill at opening doors, all downstairs
door handles had to be replaced with knobs. “The Biv”, as he was
affectionately known, could open any door with a handle he could get his
big paws on, which was sometimes a bit of a concern, particularly if it
was the bathroom. He found every corner of the house, closets and yard
to nestle in and call his own. When the dishwasher was on, we often
wondered whether River had turned it on. When we opened the pantry door
for more than a moment, he would stroll over and sit so that we could
not close the door until he a got a treat. He had us so well trained!
He loved his ride in Bill’s car on Friday mornings to drop Billy at
school. He was often seen hanging out the car window to the delight of
the school kids. Due to advanced heart disease, which afflicted "The Biv"
over the last year, his mobility became limited. However he still
delighted in roaming in his front yard as well as “Auld Park”.
River is survived by his loving
family, including his sister Cosmo and Bill, Frank, Laura and his best
buddy Billy. He leaves a host of extended family members, including his
loving “dedicated caregiver”, Lorelei, along with all the Auld family;
Johnny, Hannah and Jack. He also leaves several aunts and uncles
including his favorite “Auntie Ruthie”.
From his rattling of the family room
gate at sunrise to his tail wagging greetings when we arrived home at
the end of the day... he will be missed beyond what words could ever
express.
