| Inca and pre-Inca art of the Andean region is one of the few ways
we have of learning about Inca civilization since the Andean cultures
left no written records. Study of Inca art, pottery, architecture, and
graves has to suffice in place of any written record. This oil
painting on canvas by Juan Coronado is of an angel figure with wings
common in the art of the Andean civilization known as the Huari, a
predecessor civilization of the Incas. The Huari state (500 - 900
A.D.) was a highly sophisticated civilization with advanced irrigation
systems and architecture. Other Andean cultures copied the Huari style
of pottery. This is just one of the oil paintings Juan has done based
on the art of Andean civilizations that pre-dated the Incas and laid
the foundations of Inca culture. |
