Although
ArikiArt Online Galleries is
based in California, one of the wonderful things about being a web-based
gallery is that we can host and promote artists from anywhere in the the
world. Among our artists, we have four who call New Zealand home.
Anyone who has lived in or visited New Zealand will know how extensive,
vibrant, and accessible the New Zealand art scene is. It seems that
every corner and every highway hosts an artist community or studio, be it in
one of the major cities, in a rural town, or a deserted highway. Art
is everywhere, and for any art collector a trip to New Zealand is bound to
present an unimaginable amount of temptation, resulting in lots of additions
to their collection. The environment and native flora and fauna have a
powerful influence on New Zealand art giving much of the art of New Zealand
a particularly iconographic quality, and it is also deeply influenced by the
culture and art of the native New Zealand Maori; this is the case even for
white ("Pakeha") New Zealanders.
Our four New
Zealand artists provide just the tiniest sample of what is available in the
New Zealand art scene, but over time we hope to be able to add more artists
from New Zealand to our online galleries. We are happy to provide American
and international art collectors the opportunity to see some of the art
coming out of New Zealand and to assist any international collectors
interested in adding New Zealand art to their collections.
Andrea Beech was born in Germany and lives in Havelock North,
located in the
Hawkes Bay region of New Zealand. Her works consist primarily of
abstract art.
Ku Bailey, a New Zealand Maori artist, lives in
West Auckland. Her art is heavily influenced by her Maori origins.
Her magnificent art quilt depicting the Maori creation myth was a finalist
in the 2000 Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas
Rob Knowles was born in England and now lives in
Nelson on New Zealand's South Island, a region that is rich in arts and
crafts. His work is primarily abstract.
Pauline Savage lives in
Wanganui on the west coast of the North Island, about 100 miles north of
Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Working from her own gallery
in downtown Wanganui, Pauline's work is vibrant, colorful, and expressive.
Unfortunately, since Pauline has not adopted the internet as part of her
life (oh, that we could all go back to that Garden of Eden!), we cannot
broker any sales for her online, but we are able to contact her on your
behalf if you wish.
