Bum, a male nude painting

The nude male has been a frequent subject for Wellington artist Mario Mazzorana. This painting studies the male body from the point of view of the buttocks (bum), legs, and torso. The subject could either be a man dressing or undressing, or perhaps even a sumo wrestler. The man, naked except for a "mawashi" (sumo wrestler's loin cloth) bends forward with one leg raised in the manner of a sumo wrestler preparing to slap his foot on the floor of the "dohyo" (dojo) before engaging his opponent, a ritual known as the "shikiri".
