Imam Ali

Ali was the cousin of Muhammad, and after marriage to Fatima Zahra, he also became Muhammad's son-in-law.

Max Emadi painted this portrait of the Imam Ali over the top of cutouts of cartoons making obvious reference to the cartoons that were published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten featuring the Prophet Muhammad. Under Islamic tradition, the Prophet Muhammad is never represented in images, hence Emadi's title to the painting: "Relax, it's Ali!" just in case there is any confusion as to who is the subject of the portrait.
