| This is one of my favorite paintings by Max Emadi. For a start it is such
an honest rendition of his face without any attempts at "air-brushing"
his image so to speak. In fact, the artist did the opposite, and when he
spilt some paint thinner on the canvas, he lived with it giving the
impression of a scar on his right cheek. It's as if he wants to
say he's in no way perfect, or doesn't want to be thought of as perfect,
or perhaps wants to convey with this painting that he doesn't want to be
concerned with perfection. His technique is more loose and relaxed than you
see in his recent portrait series
Terrorists and Freedom Fighters and Hero
Worship. I find the use of color quite perfect and the image seems
to portray a contentment coming from deep within the artist.
