Whanau - Family

Whanau - Family
Appliqué quilt by Ku Bailey

96cm x 96cm (2002)
NFS

Made for entry into the Dorothy Collard Memorial Challenge. The competition theme was "Fabric Passion". Ku's intention in this quilt was to represent her passion for family wrapped in the fabric of love, encompassing marae, mountain, and river; those that have been and those yet to come.

Stitched into the quilt in Maori are the following words:

Whanau
Ko te reka o te wai,
Ko te mahana o te korowai,
Tamaua koe ki te aroha ot te whanau,
Te tukahatanga o te Iwi.

Kia ora Ku
