Dene Croft Vancouver Artist
Chef, classical guitarist, bonsai artist, and painter.
Such is the wide creative palette of Dene Croft, painter and father of two who
lives in Vancouver, Canada. Dene paints in oil on canvas, and his subject
matter has often focused on figures and scenes from the 1920's and 1930's art
deco period, still life paintings, and landscapes.
Although Dene has lived in Canada since 1991, he spent the first 29 years of his
life in New Zealand. Dene is emphatic that the deeply formative influences
of New Zealand mean that he is a New Zealand artist who lives in Canada.

Dene's interest in the subject matter of the 1920s and 1930s is anchored in his
passion for collecting small nude dancing figures from the art deco period.
Dene's career as a painter really got going with the birth of
his first child. The experience of having children was in many ways his
catharsis; providing that singular defining moment which allowed him to
re-evaluate and reflect on who he was and where he wanted to be.
It was in 1996 that Dene decided to direct his creative impulses into making
painting his full-time career. In doing so, he draws upon the formative
experiences, creative energies, and landscape of his native New Zealand, and the
spectacular beauty and experiences of his adopted Canada. By achieving an
exquisite harmony of all these influences, Dene Croft has produced a magnificent
body of art that spans his figurative paintings featuring themes from the 1920's
and 1930's art deco period, through his striking still-life paintings, and
finally to his landscapes.
