Dayton Art Institute, April 28 - June 24, 2007

The Maryily Monroe: Life as a Legend exhibit uses a wide range of artists and media to explore the public and private life of one of the world's most recognizable icons. Through the art of Andy Warhol, Allen Jones, Peter Blake, Richard Avedon, Bert Stern, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and others, this exhibition of nearly 250 objects captures Marilyn's rise to stardom. Nearly 80 artists depict the late movie star in styles ranging from fashion photography to Pop Art.

Painting After Marilyn Monroe by Max EmadiOur very own Max Emadi himself has used Marilyn Monroe for inspiration in one of his paintings in this work titled "After Marilyn Monroe". The painting depicts a woman in Islamic garb standing above a vent in front of a mosque in a reference to the famous pose effected by Marilyn Monroe in the movie "The Seven Year Itch".
"After Marilyn Monroe" is just one of several paintings by Max Emadi in a series known as "Calendar Girls" depicting Islamic women in traditional dress, but in less-than-traditonal poses.
