GASOLINE: A ROCK & ROLL APOCALYPTIC FAIRY TALE
In a post-apocalyptic world, the search for precious gasoline pits a family of orphaned witches against conniving nihilists who lurk in the decaying urban sprawl. The family must learn to shed a life of materialism and adopt new, alternative means of living in order to survive. Written and illustrated by artist Dame Darcy, "Gasoline" is a fantastical and eco-conscious gothic tale of danger, heartbreak, and the perseverance of magic and love. "Gasoline" is published by Merrell Publishers, distributed by www.perseusdistribution.com.
DAME DARCY
Dame Darcy won a scholarship to the San Francisco Art Institute in 1989. There, she majored in film and animation, studying with George Kuchar, Kathy Acker, and others. During that time, she began self-publishing her long standing comic book "Meat Cake" which is on its 16th issue and is currently published by Fantagraphics Books. While in San Francisco, she toured with her first band Caroliner Rainbow and produced her first independent solo music releases. Darcy sings, plays banjo, electric bass and singing saw. In 1992, Dame Darcy moved to New York City where she began working as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist for the Village Voice, Jane Magazine, Paper Magazine, The New York Press and Rollerderby while designing for Anna Sui, Courtney Love and others. She has also participated in comics collaborations for Alan Moore's "Cobweb" series, DC Comics "Fairytale" series, the "Women in Comics" Compilation by Trina Robbins and has done animation design for MTV, Cartoon Network and various commercials. Dame Darcy has exhibited her fine art doing solo and group shows at the Richard Heller Gallery, Copro-Nasson, La Luz de Jesus Gallery and group shows in Bellweather Gallery, Milk Gallery, Gelatin in Austria, CWC in Tokyo, Comics Art Museum in San Francisco and many others.
