Bryce Brown - Being Here - An exhibition of new paintings
Being Here - New paintings by artist Bryce Brown,
Tauranga, New Zealand
"Being Here is about New Zealanders, Pacifica, our
culture, quirkiness and love of the outdoors -particularly the coast",
artist Bryce Brown says. “I never had any intention to paint so much
scenery into my work but when you live in New Zealand and are so constantly
surrounded with such beauty, how can this be avoided?”
Brown's new work reflects strongly on our personal
experiences and integration with the New Zealand landscape. His figures are
still strong and soulful, even more so now with the addition of the land and
seascapes. Brown has focused mainly on The Bay of Plenty but also includes
some images from memories of his travels both overseas and through New
Zealand. He says, “This exhibition is about who we are as New Zealander's
and how our surroundings affect us. I want the viewer to feel like they are
there with the figures or maybe even imagine that they are the figures -not
in a realistic sense but emotionally.”
This is Bryce Brown's third New Zealand exhibition for the
year, no mean feat for any artist but Brown feels that even though this has
put a lot of pressure on him as an artist and as a family man it has enabled
him to progress his style and technique at a rapid pace.
Being Here will be Brown's eighth solo exhibition in as
many years. His work is in private collections in New Zealand, London,
Edinburgh, California, New York and more recently one of his largest works
to date "Brothers" was added to The John Deere International art collection
in Moline, Illinois. He is rapidly becoming recognized as a unique
figure in New Zealand art with his own distinct "Euronesian" style..
