Born in Oregon in 1955, Annie Marquis also
spent some time growing up in Italy and England. From the get go, she
was encouraged in art by her mother, who also is an artist.
In her early 20s, Annie started formal art
education attending various art schools in Southern California. Her
work has included media as diverse as oil, acrylic, ink, pencil, mosaic
tile, and clay.
Today, Annie focuses on large format oil
and acrylic works, that often feature a dog with with its owners.
Her works are also characterized by detailed borders. "I am inspired
by my favorite painters. I use patterns and other images in a collage
sort of way. I'm inspired by the beauty of nature, the ambiguous, and
the ridiculous."
Annie currently lives in Southern
California. As you might imagine from the dogs in her paintings, Annie
has a great affection for dogs, and has two dogs of her own.
Annie doesn't only have a reputation as a
great artist; she is also well-known for the culinary works of art she
creates as a pastry chef in a local bakery. And her handcrafted
chocolates are as legendary as her paintings, as any of her lucky friends
will tell you around the holiday season.
