Salton Sea

An Abstract Painting by Juan Coronado

Blue tones are not a common color found in Juan's most recent paintings which tend to intense reds, so this painting entitled "The Salton Sea" comes as a bit of a surprise. When I saw it in Juan's "Abstract Moods" exhibition it was instantly my favorite painting in the body of work. The painting is another fine example of Juan's use of texture. The entire surface of the canvas has a deep crazing effect on it that looks like cracked dry mud or the surface of an old earthenware vase. The colors range from bluish-green, to gold and dark olive.
