Moonlit Boat

Although the title and the fact we can see the moon in the painting would suggest a boat on the water, in fact the boat in the painting appears to be a prop on stage. A bare light bulb hangs from its cord, and a chair with a wrought-iron back sits next to the boat. The sail of the boat, which is purple and gold, dangles away from the mast. The boat appears to be under a spot light judging by how well-lit it is and the shadow it is casting.
