Knowing how Raymond Neher brought fantasy and imagination to his art, I can not be sure that this idyllic scene of a couple enjoying a vacation on the patio of some hotel or restaurant in a tropical paradise isn't something entirely imaginary. Red wine, a cigarette, a cruise ship in the background, and tropical palms and sea certainly make me feel the cut of the phrase "Wish you were here". Looking at this painting certainly makes me dream of being somewhere else, and I wonder if that is what Raymond was doing himself.
