New York Subway RiderPainting by Raymond Neher. This painting of riders on the New York City subway is a good example of a common pattern seen in several of Raymond Neher's figurative paintings in its repetition of the subject. Raymond had told me that while living in NYC he felt keenly a sense of loss of identity, and works like this were intended to convey that sense of becoming indistinguishable in the the crowds of The Big Apple. An unusual thing to note about this painting is that according to Raymond Neher's records, this work was done in oil, which was very unusual for him as almost all his works were done in acrylic.
