Figurative Art by Raymond Neher

Figurative art was the main format of Raymond Neher's early career as an artist. It was only after Neher was set back by a less-than-favorable review in the San Francisco press after an exhibition of his work that he abandoned figurative paintings in favor of landscapes. This was quite a tragic outcome, as his figurative works were quite remarkable pieces. For a start they very much reflect the early 1970's when they were painted, with the fashions and sensibilities of the 1960s still evident evident in many of the works. Additionally, they are full of interest, imagination, and color and a pleasure to view.

Over the next few months, I will be publishing images of his figurative works, many of them taken from the artist's catalog of slides of his body of work.
