What is a giclee print?
Giclée art prints (pronounced ji-clay) are
high quality reproductions created from digital images that are printed on a
giclée
printer. Giclée
(French for "a spurt") is used to describe both the process of printing using a
giclee inkjet printer, and also for a print made using this method. They can be
printed on a variety of surfaces, including artist canvas and paper. To give you
an idea of the size and appearance of a giclee printer, they are sometimes
referred to as "knitting machines".

If properly prepared and proofed and printed on artist'
canvas, the giclee print will appear just like the original painting. A
limited edition giclee print is a good alternative to buying the original
artwork if your art budget is limited or if you require a large number of
artworks, for example, to furnish your new home, or for an office or business
setting.
The inks used for giclee printing are specially adapted
water-based inks with high light-fastness. Because the inks are water-based,
giclee prints should be treated in the same fashion as watercolor paintings, and
protected from moisture and direct daylight. And just like a watercolor
painting, you don't want to blow on them to remove dust! ArikiArt treats
all its giclee prints with a UV varnish to protect them from both light and
moisture.
If you are considering buying a giclee print, you should
determine whether or not the prints are being issued in a limited edition or
open series. Limited edition giclee prints are obviously more valuable
than an open series which has no limit on the number of reproductions that may
be produced. At Ariki Art, all giclee prints are issued in limited edition
series only.
Giclee prints are rarely reproduced in a size larger than the
original so as to maintain resolution quality. At Ariki Art we can offer giclee
prints in a range of sizes smaller than the original. If you like one of our
artists' paintings but the original is too large for your setting or beyond your
art budget, then request us to make the
print smaller to your specifications. We will reply with a quote if it is
not a published size.
Currently Juan Coronado
and Jeane Coutts are offering
limited editions of most of their artworks exhibited are Ariki Art. Browse

Because giclee prints are printed to order, please allow us 3
to 4 weeks for delivery. We require this amount of time to receive proofs from
our printer, have the approved proof printed, and then sent for stretching and
UV treatment, and finally shipping.
If you live outside of the United States and are concerned
about shipping costs, you can request that we do not stretch the canvas, which
will enable us to ship the artwork in a mailing tube at much reduced cost.
However, you will need to have the canvas stretched by your own framer. Since
the UV treatment can only be applied to a stretched canvas, we also recommend
that you have your print UV treated by your framer at the time of stretching or
have your print framed under UV (museum) glass for protection from light and
moisture.
As time permits, we are adding specific "Add to Cart" links,
but if you see an artwork on the web site that you like and would be interested
in buying as a giclee print, please contact
us with the details of the artwork and we will give you a range of sizes and
prices to choose from.
